The History of the District Court Balangoda

Establishment: The District/ Magistrate Court, Balangoda (DC/MC Balangoda) is one of the long–established combined courts in the Rathnapura Judicial Zone of Sri Lanka. It has been established under Sri Lanka’s Judicial System to provide both civil and criminal litigation for the Balangoda area.

Judicial Functions: Initially, the court operated as a combined court, with one presiding judge to adjudicate both civil and criminal cases. With effect from 04.04.2022, District Magistrate’s Court Balangoda operates as a combined court for administrative purposes.

Operational Structure

  • Separate Judicial Functions: Yet, it operates separately as a District Court and a Magistrate’s Court for judicial functions with two judicial officers to hear civil and criminal cases separately.
